Steiff -
More than Just Bears
Eventually, I knew I would write a post about Steiff. For those who don't know, Steiff (Germany) is a toy company famous for their earlier manufacture of stuffed toy bears. Margarete Steiff had been a victim of polio at a very young age. Nevertheless, even without the use of almost 1 hand, she learned to use a sewing machine. From there, Margarete started to sew felt elephant pin cushions in 1879. She also made other animals such as pigs, cats and dogs, and a year later (1880), she decided to create her own company. And as the famous expression goes - "the rest is history".
Many of the listings did not have dates in the descriptions. Sometimes, with certain types of toys this happens. If you go to the HubPages link that I have at the beginning of this post, you can find out how old a Steiff toy is from its' tags and buttons.
What can be said of this company is that it truly has stood the age of time. After more than 133 years, the fine stuffed toys from Steiff are still around. That longevity says a lot about a company!
Another very hot and humid day here in Montreal.
Thanks for visiting this post,
and as always.
have a great part of the day,
wherever you may be.
