A Big Thank You for
Visiting My Blog
(as well as contributing to my blog)

My first post was on January 19, 2011
Today is May 18,2024

Today marks the 14th year that I've been writing.
I am reminded about blogging from the movie Forrest Gump
with Tom Hangs in the lead. One of his lines was when
he was sitting on a bench waiting for the bus.

"My Mamma always said, Life was like a box of chocolates.
You never know what ya gonna get"

And so it is with my blog.

If you ever read my first post, I happened to get into blogging by accident.
I was a "regular" morning visitor at Tim Horton's
(the equivalent of Dunkin Donuts in the USA).

One day, a woman regular brought in 2 perfect sets of
Meccano Sets (A British toy manufacturer that made construction toys.
They were in perfect condition and she knew her toys!

I ended up buying them for around $ 225.00 Canadian
($163.03 USA Dollars), and then sold them (I think on ebay)
after taking lots of photos.

My blog has reached the 1,000,000 mark(1,029,456) but Google Blogger doesn't seem to want to tell me is that number in people visits
They identify the number as page views!

And so, I wanted to  thank each and every one of you who has ever visited my blog.
You have motivated me to keep writing, and I have never tired of doing so.

So thank you all, and please note that I am always ready to write a blog post for you, It's thanks to you that I am able to continue writing.

And thank you to all of the companies  and their owners who have also
allowed me to use their photos, and to write about them.

In closing, I'll add my "regular line".

Thanks for dropping by,
and have a great part of the day or night,
wherever you may be.

A Most Interesting Discovery
From an Excellent ebay Seller

I'm always searching the Internet for new companies, people or websites.
And so it was, just a few days ago, when I was on ebay, when I titled a search for "Cast Iron Airplanes".  A list of different sellers was presented, but what caught
my eye was not the toy, but the excellent photography!

The photography was super! Excellent lighting, well-composed with the key item being the centre of attention, and a beautiful table. If you took the colour out, you'd imagine that you were looking at a photo from the 1940's.

It was just so wonderful!

I sent an internal e-mail  to the seller on ebay, and got a reply in a short time,
with permission to write about Mr. Ted Quillin and his ebay store trq67. Not only did I obtain his permission, but he provided me with interesting information about the company that had made the cast iron airplane!

                                                                   What Service!

Ted's willingness to go that extra distance to provide me with information on this toy was  no accident. ebay has given him a high rating for excellent service as a seller. You can see the 2 screen-captures about the North& Judd Company at the bottom of this post.

Description

"A rare North & Judd cast iron Lindy airplane. Sales  were slow during the depression years and they made toys for 1 year to increase sales.
The  plane is 6 3/8" long and a 4 3/4" wingspan"
(Depression years: 1929-1941)

What I liked about Ted's photography is the quality of the photos.
The cast-iron toy was placed on a nicely-grained tabletop, with an interesting table lamp base.I especially like the lighting. The toy is well-lit, and the shadow adds a nice 3-D (depth) to the photo.

I didn't have to research this fine toy, as Ted sent me 2 references of the
North & Judd Company.

    So that's it for today.

A Huge Case of Using Other People's photos without their permission

A Huge Case of Using Other People's Photos
without their  Permission

You're probably wondering why I've put huge copyright notices on the 6 photos above.

Maybe I'm "going overboard" but I'm very upset, and so,
have I got a story to tell you!

I was doing a search on the Internet last week for my photos,
when I noticed that a few of people's images and mine as well, were being used without anyone's permission. I don't want to mention any companies that have mega amounts of images, videos, and so forth, but that's where they are!

When I ask people and companies if I may use their photos, I always add a
Copyright notice © 2024, as well as a note asking people to ask the owner of the photo(s)  for his/her permission.  However, this did not happen! Those photos I just mentioned were on these websites "carte-blanche"!

I have the trust of kind individuals and companies, and I was very upset.

In one case, my photos and those of someone whom I'd had the permission to use photos,
were being used to sell toys with my photos as well as those of another.
Obviously, they do not have those toys to sell!

Naturally, I was very upset, so I contacted 3 American Photo website sources
where my photos are shown and displayed. These sites advertise
to have people place their photos there.

In all 3 cases,
there were different "reasons" why nothing could or would be done:

1. They couldn't  or won't  do anything
(such as remove them and notify those who used them).

2. Because I was using people's photos who allowed me to use them.
I could not ask one of these photo "Titans" to remove the photo on their
website. I would have to contact the person or company who gave me permission to use
the photo, and they would have to write to the photo "Titan"

3. Because I am in Canada, they can't do anything. The "3 Titans" are in the U.S.A.

4. In one case, the place where the photos were being used is not in North America,
so it's not under their jurisdiction.

5. I asked for one of these photo-gathering sites to remove
my photos that were being posted by people who were using my
photos "without permission"and the site said they won't.

6. I also e-mailed the Copyright Office of the USA, but I'll have to wait
for a reply from them (if at all).

6. I even contacted the FBI, but they didn't even answer my letter. A
day later I got a letter asking how did they do.

I told them, how could I answer that, when you didn't do anything!

I'm willing to bet that this using other people's photos without permission
happens more often that anyone realizes.

So this is my blog post for today. My apologies if I'm slightly irritated, but
I can't believe to what extent, there are no laws, or nobody willing to contact these sites, or to take down those photos on those mega-sized photo sites and so forth.

Also, if you go to these photo-collecting websites, you won't believe what they can do or not do with your photos. On one site, the 12 pages of the copyright laws and their "rules" are very "soft", and your photos may and can be used under the
USA copyright Laws ("Fair Dealing").

Do a search for
"Can my photos on the Internet be used by other people"?

Hey, what can I say?

Always "read the fine print".

Thanks for dropping by,
and as always, have a great part of the day or night,
wherever you may be.

A Return to an Exellent ebay Seller

A Return to an Excellent eBay Seller
Masters Vintage Toys, Inc.
(vintage-toymasters)

If you haven't been visiting my blog, I'm glad to tell you that I've been returning
to everyone who have helped me since 2011, and am writing new posts about them. So,
for today, I'd like to introduce toy to Masters Vintage Toy, Inc.

It's not an "original introduction" as I just recently returned to write a post about this excellent company on March 11,  2024.I must have been tired 2 days ago, when I did a search and found Masters Vintage Toys, Inc.again. I had searched to see whom I have written about, and up popped this excellent company on ebay. I looked at their store, and I was  amazed at how many small-sized old toys they had listed for sale on their website.

When you go to their store this is their introduction:

"We sell a wide variety of vintage and antique toys including toys from the 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's. We have one of the largest antique toy stores on eBay, so please be sure to check out our store to find that must have item that you have been missing from your collection. We are constantly purchasing new items from collections, estate sales, auctions, flea markets, etc. so be sure to check back often if you do not see the item you are looking for."

They have a large inventory with a broad range of prices
depending on the rarity of the particular item, the condition,
and if it comes with the original box.

On this visit, they had a large assortment of Dinky toys.

What I like about  Masters Vintage Toys,  Inc. is that they present a lot
of excellent photos for you, the buyer to look at the item for sale.

Their photos are separate.

What I did is to assemble from 4-6 images together in 1 composite photo.

Descriptions below:

Dinky Junior Renault Dauphine

1940's Dinky # 25d Petrol Tank Truck,
Petrol White Letters, Original

Below:
DinkyNo. 103 Austin Healy 100 Sports Car

So that's it for today.

Better Late than Never - With Apologies
(Mieux Vaut Tard que Jamais- Avec mes Excuses)

I received an e-mail several years ago from a fellow Quebecer. He wanted to know what the value was of a beautiful wood Hubley Fire Truck with an aerial ladder
I don't know what happened, but  time moved on, and I somehow forgot to answer Mr.Sylvain Baz.

Fast forward, and I was looking through my e-mail (Google gmail saves everything!).
Lo and behold there was the request from Mr. Sylvain Baz asking if I could help him to find out the value of this beautiful toy.

I did a search this week, but I couldn't find the answer. If you do the search, you end up with lots of results, but you have to be a member of the auctions company in order to communicate with them.

I can't find much information about the toy, so if someone out there can help me, that also would be great. The toy is 29" (73.66 cm) long, weighs 3 lbs 15.5 oz. pounds (1.80 kg). It's made of wood, and Worthpoint identifies the years made between early 1920's- mid 1950's.*

Sylvain was looking to find the value (price) of this toy.

So this is my blog post for today.
I hope that someone can help me find the value of this toy,
and when it was made.

Thanks for visiting my blog,
and have a great part of the day or evening,

Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers:
Photography at its' Best

Earlier this past week, I had just finished my first post about
Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers. The next day, I went to search
for more toys.

There was a whole auction of toys, but what best caught my eyes were 2 Tippco airplanes that were beautifully photographed. After I had written and posted Selkirk's first post, I wrote to them to proofread the post. But I also commented
how excellent their photography is.

Today's post is about 2 Tippco airplanes

The Tippco Toys Company was a German company started up in 1912
by Mr. Philipp Ullmann. It became very successful and had manufactured lithographed tin toys in Europe.

Airplane # 1

Description:

D-IGAN Tippco Double-Decker Fighter Airplane
German, circa 1940 , lithographed tin.

Wingspan:  14 1/2 inches x 10 inches (36.83 x 25.40 cm)

As you can see, the photography is excellent. Using a white background and hanging the toy planes by a wire line, gives them a sense of flight.

What I also like about Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers is that they provide lots of photographs for potential auction bidders to clearly see what they are bidding upon.

Airplane # 2

Description:

D-Olaf Tippco Single Wing Bomber Airplane

German, circa 1940, lithographed tin.
With composition pilot and four original bombs
that accept caps. Bombenflugzeub (Bomber Plane)

Wingspan x Length:
  14.30 inches  x 10 inches
36.32 cm x 25.4 cm

The photo below is a screen-capture of the last photo above.
I don't know if everybody knows this, but

if you click on any photo, a large-sized image will show,
and below that, small photos of all the photos of the blog
will appear.

You can move your cursor (arrow) to the first photo on the left,
and click on each of the photos to see them LARGE-SIZED.

I hoped that you enjoyed the post and the fantastic photography
to compliment these old toys. It's hard to believe that they are
more that 75 years old!

How time flies!
(please excuse the idiom)
