An Outstanding Collection Of Mechanical Banks by The RSL Auction Company

An Outstanding Collection of Mechanical  Banks
by
The RSL Auction Company
from the

Haradin Family Collection

I can't believe how fast the time is "flying"this year. I feel that the older. I get, the faster time literally flies by.

I'm on the RSL Auction Company's mailing list, and so I received their latest 2 auctions. One just came up in July, and the other one (which  I will be showing today),will be on

August 3, 2024
(Live Auctioneers)

Of course as time "flies by", everything changes,
and so does this fine American Auction Company.

For this exceptional auction, the RSL Auction Company has
created an excellent Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format).
I downloaded it (I am a monthly subscriber to some of Adobe's
programs), although you might be able to download it also,
without cost.

Personally, I find lately, that successful and fine  auction companies
are advancing and modernizing their ways of bringing fine merchandise to auction.

Photography has improved , and presenting merchandize against a white background makes merchandize stand out much better.

However, creating  a catalogue as an Adobe PDF file to download is
marvellous. It allows the viewer to download one large file and view it at his or her pace, whenever they want.

This takes time, along with skilled people who can take professional photos, and then present them in a program that assembles the items into a beautiful catalogue.

I really enjoyed writing this blog post. It's great to see toys, and especially these cast iron banks, being auctioned to other new owners. These new owners will continue to marvel at these fine types of toys for another generation.

For myself, I find that the older I get, the faster time goes by.

Yet these toys will be around for a long time to be handed down from one family generation to another, or to be sold at auction like this great collection is.

It's wonderful to realize!

The Kingsbury Racers

A page from the 1920's catalogue

In the 1920's there were a lot of British race car drivers who wanted to set the world record
for the land speed record. Malcolm Campbell set the record in Great Britain.

# 335 Napier-Campbell Bluebird Racer
The original car was driven by Capt. Malcolm Campbell in 1928,
which broke the land speed record of the time by going 207 mph.
Wind-up spring motor with Dunlop rubber tires.
Length:  19" 482 mm

Model of the famous Sunbeam Racer, driven by Major Seagrave,
that made the world's speed record of 203 mph, on Daytona Beach (Florida) in March, 1927.
Heavy gauge metal, Dunlop rubber tires, and a strong steel spring motor.
Length:  19" 482 mm
Length:  19" 482 mm

Major Seagrave's Golden Arrow Racer
An exact reproduction in which Major Seagrave broke the World's record
by driving at a record speed of 231.5 mph.
length: 20" 508 mm

Kingsbury "Thunderbolt" Racer
Pressed steel, painted in red, rare toy racer, seated driver,
with a tall tail fin design. A land speed racer.
Clockwork driven with a strong wind-up mechanism.
Length:  17 3/4"  (450 mm)

The Kingsbury company made lots of other toys besides racers. Mechanical wind-up trucks, cars, airplanes, and fire trucks were all made in the Kingsbury plant in New Hampshire, USA.

Take care, and have a nice
part of the day or evening.

Bill Buttaggi's New Book on the
Lincoln White Metal Works Company

I received a most-interesting e-mail from Mr. Bill Buttaggi. Bill is an avid collector of  slush toys.
A slush toy is made by pouring molten alloy of lead into a mould. Afterwards, the mould is left to cool, and the toy in then removed. Later, it is painted, and wheels are added to the toy.

Bill had written an excellent book on the slush toys of the
Lincoln White Metal Works Company.

THE SLUSH MOLD TOYS OF LINCOLN WHITE METAL WORKS
A complete history of Clayton E. Stevenson and his slush mold toy company Lincoln White Metal Works.
This 102 page book showcases all the known toys from the company and a few newly
discovered as well. Each toy is beautifully photographed in multiple views so no detail is lost.
Also included are screenshots from a film of the Lincoln White Metal Works factory, interesting
comparisons to real vehicles, information on the slush molding process and an index of LWMW
wheel and propeller types, sizes and bottom pan variations.

Please click here to see Bill's website and to order the book

In this modern 21st century, anyone can now create their own books, and this is how Bill  made and published.

For those of you who want to leaf through the book, and even purchase it, please

So that's it for today.
Please take care of yourself and have a great part of the day or evening.

An Inquiry From Down Under (Australia)

An Inquiry from Down Under
(Australia)

It's always exciting when you get an inquiry from a place you don't usually expect. And so it was with this inquiry - it was from Australia, or as they say there, "down under". The writer , who  happens to have a fine ebay store, also has an excellent reputation. He goes by the name of Australianmodelcars.

I would normally write about the superb merchandise that he has on his ebay store, but his question was one of the more interesting questions (and discovery) that I have not heard in a long time. He has a group of cars that were manufactured in Australia by the name of  Winna.

"Hi I Found your site browsing the Internet
Being a collector of Australian made toys for over 60 years I have been trying to find out if
the Australia Winna toys that made in the 1940s being almost identical to Tootsietoys.
Were they licensed or made by Tootsietoys with Winna  stamped on the base plate.
Or if they were copied by Winna. Also Bentoy did the same thing.
As Australia was so far away in the 1940s who knows what went on
Up to now not much is known’
I have examples of both Winna, Brentoys, and Tootsietoys.
Any information would be helpful in my research;
Keep safe in the current virus situation.
Thanks
"Australianmotorcars"

As you can see above, the red toy (Tootsietoy), and the 3 other toys (Winna) are quite similar.

The inside of the cars are marked with their respective identifications
of Tootsietoy and Winna.

Tootsietoys and Winna

Descriptions:

"he red toy  is a  Tootsietoy 1939 LaSalle sedan ( 83 mm / 3 1/4" long)
Solid rubber wheels, die cast , made in the USA, 1940's.

The other 3 toys were manufactured by Winna.
Closed sedan, made in 1940's,(83 mm / 3 1/4" long.
Die cast, made in Australia, 1940's.
With bakelite or plastic wheels.
Winna stamped under the inside of the roof, F.H.E. stamped under the bonnet (hood).
Came in various colours.
Type of packaging unknown, original price not known.
Place of manufacture not known, but possibly Melbourne, Victoria (Australia).
Manufacturer's name nt known; trading name not known.
Tootsie and Winna look to be the same casting with different wheels."

Below are 2 more different views of these very nice toys.

If anyone out there knows about the Australian toy brand Winna,
would you please write to me, so that I can forward the information to
Australianmotorcars.

As always,
Thanks for dropping by.
Have a great time of the day or not
wherever you may be.

or as they say "down under in Australia"
G'day

And during these terrible times of the Corona Virus, please take care of yourself
and your family.

All the best,

A Different Wyandotte Toy

A Different Wyandotte Toy

I saw this Wyandotte toy a day ago on ebay, so I decided to post it on my blog.
What's different about this toy is that it is a wind-up toy of ducks that move.
It's probably a toy that is much later than the 1930's toys which seemed to be
mostly trucks and cars of pressed steel.

If you examine the cardboard, you will see that there is no ZIP code of any kind on the box.
Large American city ZIP Codes (Zone Improvement Plan)first appeared in 1943 , and they were
2-digit codes.  In July of 1963, 5-digit ZIP Codes were announced for the whole country.

So, I assume that this toy is from the late 1930's or 1940's , excluding the war years, since metal was limited in the manufacture of toys during the war years.

A Bit of History:

Initially, All Metal Products Company specialized in toy guns, including pop guns, water pistols, and air rifles. Their slogan in the 1920s was "Every Boy Wants a Pop Gun." By 1927 they had become the world's largest manufacturer of toy guns. Wyandotte Toys stopped manufacturing air rifles in 1929, but continued to dominate the toy gun market throughout the remainder of their history by producing pop guns, clicker pistols, dart guns and pistols, cap guns and a variety of plastic pistols. In 1929 the company added girls' toys and toy vehicles, as well as lithographed novelty toys in 1936. Metal toys were banned during World War II because the metals were needed for the war effort. The company survived by producing wooden toys and die-cut cardboard "build your own" play sets during the war. All Metal Products also manufactured en bloc clips for the M1 Garand rifle. Clips of this nature will be stamped with "AMP1" on the rear of the clip.*

By the way, this toy was won by someone on ebay for # 249.95 USA.

Sturditoys

Sturditoys

"Sturditoy, the Pressed Metal Company, brought the introduction in 1926 of nine marvelous pressed steel toy trucks and a steam shovel from a company in Pawtucket, Rhode Island under the trade name "Sturditoy". Manufactured by The Pressed Metal Company, these trucks featured solid disc wheels, hard rubber "Firestone" tires and heavy steel bumpers. Sturditoys were advertised as "True Lines of Modern Motor Fire Apparatus and Modern Business Trucks" which duplicated real trucks found on the highways of America in 1926. The most noted items produced that first year were the highly acclaimed "Pumper" and "Chemical Fire Auto Truck" and the "Water Auto Tower". Each of these toy fire fighting vehicles were equipped with a real water tank and hand-operated pump which could propel a stream of water 25 feet. Both fire trucks were reported to be copies of American-LaFrance Company. By the end of 1927, a total of 14 Sturditoy trucks and one steam shovel were being offered by The Pressed Metal Company. In 1929 the Sturditoy Company announced the addition of 5 new trucks, bringing the total to 25. Sturditoys were committed to history in 1933 when they ceased to be produced."*
