Smith-Miller Toys Revisited

Smith-Miller is a modern-day company that has produced large-sized models or toys, depending whether or not a child plays with them, or an adult collects them. They've been around since 1979, however, the original company was formed in 1954. Originally, the company was producing toys under the names "Smitty Toys" and "M.I.C.". These fine toys are 1/16 in scale  or from 16" - 25" (402 mm - 605 mm) depending upon the type of toy. The current owner (1979) is Mr. Fred Thompson who had bought these toys when he was a young boy. Originally, the original company produced only 2 trucks, but today, there are 48 different toys (models). The newer trucks all have serial numbers and are produced in limited editions. The trucks are hand-assembled, and one can even order parts for trucks should the toy or part of the toy break. THe cost of the new toys can range
$ 995.00 - 1395.00 US dollars, and that includes shipping. For the budget-conscious person, the older versions of toys can be found on ebay or at toy auctions on Liveauctioneers. Prices for the "used" toys can range from $ 500.00 - $ 1200.00 US dollars.

Introduction to  Timco Vintage Toys

"Timco Vintage Toys is a family owned business located in Portland Oregon. My love for model trains and toy vehicles started as a child as my father and I collected the original Lesney Matchbox cars. We also had a massive HO scale railroad layout. My father really started my obsession with these toys. Our collecting continued for the next 45 years. We still collect and yes, I still play with trains. Currently we offer a massive amount of N-Scale model trains. Many of these come from our private collection as well as estates purchased in our local area. We have sold our trains all over the world and have been a eBay member for approximately 20+ years. We value each and every customer and treat each transaction with respect, care and timely communications with our customers. We will always do our best to provide excellent customer service, provide an awesome selection of auction items and be sure that both sides of the transaction are happy and the process remains fun. Thank You, Tim"

I have to admit first, that I was more interested in the photo location. I live in Montreal, Quebec (Canada) and true weather is starting to change. For some reason (I was wrong), I thought Tim, the owner of Timco Vintage Toys lived inn Hollywood, and took the photo on the beach.  I had a lounging to be somewhere warm, because in 1 month, Montreal will start to hibernate for the winter and go into a deep freeze.

Nevertheless, albeit Tim lives in Portland, Oregon (USA), I still have that longing for the beach.

Now for the toy!
If you've read my posts about Smith-Miller toys, these toys are always in strong demand. I haven't seen this particular toy before, and it is being offered for $ 1,495.00 U.S. The Searchlight truck was built in the 1950's and these toys were built to last! As well, you can see that the searchlight is still in great shape.

As for the photography, it's great. The file size was large, so it was easy to resize for this post. As week, the integration of the seashore with the toy on the rail was done excellently.

The Smithy-Miller toys are still being made, and are quite expensive to purchase.
AS for myself, I'll soon start the countdown to spring. RIght now it's too early in October.
From today to April, 1, 2017, it's only 180 days to warmer weather. Then again, this years' spring was terrible with April and May being very cold.

Oh well, at least I have Tim's nice photos of the beach to remind me that
there are good times ahead for next year.

A Superbly-Photographed Smith-Miller Timber Truck

Monday, October 13, 2014
           Cool and Sunny

A Superbly-Photographed
Smith-Miller Timber Truck

While I was searching out Strauss timber trucks yesterday, I came across a very nice Smith-Miller truck. Better still, it was excellently photographed by Dirk Soulis  of Dirk Soulis Auctions. I had only recently write to Dirk to ask for his permission to write about his company and of course his fine items that had gone to auction.  His photography is gréât, and his images sises are large. This not only helps make my life easier when posting, but also allows readers to see the small details of the  toy items that he has sold.

The Smith-Miller company was purchased a while ago and still continues to produce their fine toys.
The truck below was produced in the 1950's and is in gréât shape. It is however missing the chaine that would have held the timbers in place.  I'm sure that anyone who purchased this toy, would be able to contact the company today for replacement parts. These toys became collector items rather than toys, so it's rare today that a child would play with them.

Some of the rare Smith-Miller "items" (not using the word toys) can sell for 1000's of dollars!

When you examine the photos in the Blogger slide mode,
you can see the nice detail in these dis cast toys.

I woiuld be willing to bet that there are many adults out there who have had their children play with thèse collectibles. Hopefully, the children played with them very carefully, so that the fathers wouild still be able to boast about their fine collection of "models"!

I sometimes wonder who the child is with regard to these fine "collectibles !
This would especially true on a rainy day, like today in Monrtreal, when children would be in the house rather than outdoors.

An Excellent Seller Revisited

An Excellent Seller Revisited

I received an e-mail from an anonymous person about a post that I wrote with today's seller. The reader will be sending me information and photos about the real airplanes that the toy is modelled after. The post is from June 1, 2014,and the seller  is Mr. Nathan Forman, who goes by the name of Toyclaus on ebay. What originally attacked me to Nathan's store store was the quality photos that Nathan took, and of course the merchandise. I'm going to be posting again tomorrow about a new toy that I have not seen before - a Lindstrom toy outboard motor, again from Nathan.

As I was looking at Nathan's current and recent past sales, I decided to write a post about a specific toy  and of course Nathan. The toy is an older 1950's Smith-Miller Aerial Ladder Fire Truck # 3 S.M.F.D.  The Smith-Miller toys (old and new) are always in high demand. The original toys were made extremely well and are very rugged and durable. In those times (the 1950's), kids played with these toys. Today however, the new toys made under the new owner of the company are in high demand by collectors who save them rather than have their children play with them. The new toys call even sell for thousands of dollars!

1950'S ORIGINAL SMITH MILLER AERIAL LADDER FIRE TRUCK #3 S.M.F.D.

1950'S ORIGINAL SMITH MILLER "SMITTY TOYS" AERIAL FIRE TRUCK #3 S.M.D.F. 35" LONG X 6" WIDE X 7 3/4" HIGH, WITH MACK CAB, LOSS OF PAINT, BROKEN BUMPER 1 1/2" LEFT SIDE, PARTIAL DECALS, AERIAL TRAILER HAS LOSS OF SOME PAINT, COMPLETE DECALS, ORIGINAL STRING, REPLACED GEAR THAT LIFT THE LADDER (WORKING CONDITION), BROKEN GEAR THAT EXTENDS THE LADDERS, REPLACED LANDING HOLDER SUPPORT. OTHER THAN THAT STILL IN GOOD SHAPE.*
Description Courtesy of Mr. Nathan Forman*

Metric Size: 889 mm x 152 mm x 197 mm

You can see the quality of the materials, the details, and the casting that the original owner of the Smith-Miller toy company placed into his toys. However, what is great is the quality of the photos (large-sized on ebay) that Nathan takes. As well,he takes lots and lots of photos!

An excellent rear view of both the truck and the rear unit with the ladders.

You'll have to go to the link below to see the large-sized and quality photos of Nathan.
However, please go ASAP if you read this post, as ebay only keep the photos online for about 2 months after any sale. However, you'll also be able to see plenty of other toys and fine photography that were recently sold.

This is my second post of the day, but it's well worth the extra effort to write about Nathan.

When you want to cross-reference a toy and see nice photos and a well-written description, then Nathan is one of the people to visit!
