JaysModels Diecast Replicas

The reason for revisiting  JaysModels (DIECAST REPLICAS) is that his original post (February 20 2013 ) has been viewed 5,864 times. When I originally wrote about JaysModels, the blog was an  exception to my usual postings of old and antique toys. Jay's website has exceptional diecast models (not toys!). However, I couldn't resist the chance to write about these toys. I had tried to have large model companies send me a sample, or I'd go to a local model store, but even with offering the value of the toy to "borrow" a toy, I had no luck!

Below is the link to the original post from 7 years ago:

These diecast replicas are just unbelievable, since you get to see "up close" what you usually have to see far away in real life. At the time I was highly elated to have received permission to use their models and write about them.

Most of today's models are scaled to 1:50, 1:48. There are also 1:24 and 1:16
What a  1:50 scale means is that these diecast replicas are 1/50 the size of the original "real"machine.

Here's an example:
Model is 1:50 and is 10" (254 mm) long
The real machine is
10" x 50 = 500" (41.66 'long)
or in metric
254 mm x 50 =12,700 mm/1000 = 12.7 meters

So that's it for today. I can't believe how fast the time is going by.
It's already May 14, 2020 and summer is almost here.
Unfortunately , 5 days ago it snowed here in Montreal, and in the Gaspé there was 30 cm (11').

Hopefully, things will get much better in the second half of this year.

All the best to all,
and have a healthy and happy day or evening, wherever you may be.

Oldtoystores on ebay

I originally published this article on February 24, 2018. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the owner of Fumby Street Motors wrote back to me, and sent me the excellent article below after the photos from oldtoystoreusa.

I've been writing about scale models lately, as well as revisiting people and companies who have helped me out in the past. So when I returned to oldtoystoreusa on ebay, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were selling fine scale models.

oldtoystoreusa sells wonderful scale models, and the Fumby models below are quite nice.
The models are 1:15 in scale and come in 3 colours. They are green, yellow, and red. Also, the states in the back can come in the same matching colours or in a variation of black. These models are quite nice, and come with a variety of features, that you can read about  after the photos.

 Fumby Street Motors
1957 White WC-22 Stake Truck
1:15 Scale Model
Limited Edition
Date of Manufacture: 2008
Total Production: 1000
Size:  L x H x W:  19" x 6.5" x 6.5"
48.3 cm x 16.5 cm x 16.5 cm
Weight:  9 pounds
4.09 Kg

These models come with working steering,  working doors and handles,
working rear suspension articulation, opening hood with full engine detail,
detailed chassis, and operating rear lift gate. There is also an option to
purchase a wood grain bed veneer for the back chassis bottom.

I wrote to the owner of Fumby Street Motors to inform him that I had posted about his fine model trucks. Mr. Clark Wade wrote back.
Here's what he had to say:

Hello Stacey,

"Thanks for the email and the blog.  Apologies for my tardiness in responding.  Was out of town and since Fumby Street Motors is a one man band, no one was minding the store.  Your blog is impressive and really covers a range of subjects.

I've attached images of an article that appeared in last November's Toy Trucker & Contractor.  It pretty well covers the Fumby Street story.  My orginal intent was to do a toy truck in the Smith-Miller vein of a truck brand that had not been done before.  Crown Premiums talked me into more detail and I'm glad of it.

I have done a number of custom units (as have others) and I enjoy doing them, but I am really slow.  All the trucks came to me fully assembled in the stake bed configuration.  Fortunately I chose the 10 wheel type as it is easier to make a 6 wheel type out of it, than the other way around.  Even though they are fully assembled, I spend about an hour on each one correcting some manufacturing irregularities.

I have sold a few in Canada, but these days it costs almost $50 in shipping and I haven't found any way around it.

Hope this answers your questions and thanks for the plug."

Clark Wade also sent me an excellent article (below) about the manufacturing of his
Fumby trucks. Toy Trucker and Contractor certainly did a fine job in interviewing Clark.
You might want to read the article as it is very interesting, and who would know just how much time and effort goes into creating, designing, and producing a nice model

There certainly is a lot of preparation and detail that went into the making of
these fine Fumby trucks. The photo of Clark Wade with the
1957 prototype of his 1957 WC-22 stake truck illustrates just how large the model is.

There certainly is a lot  of time and revisions that go into the making of a model.
The photo in the bottom left corner illustrates the many
different models that Clark's company produces.

For myself, I enjoyed reading about the Fumby Street Motors company,
and I hope you liked the article also.

Thanks for dropping by,
And have a great part of the day or night.

Heritage Auctions and the Pocher Company

Part I

Pocher Scale Models

These models contain anywhere from 800- 2400 pieces made of highly-resistant plastic parts, brass parts, and steel, copper, leather, rubber, and aluminum. The Pocher company was introduced at the International Toy Fair of Milan in 1966, and was extremely well-received by those in attendance. The models were all 1:8 in size, and could weight as much as 16 pounds (7.77 kg)!
Assembly was mostly with threaded fasteners such as screws, nuts and bolts.
The models came both as kits, or pre-assembled units.

The company was sold several times over, eventually being purchased by the famous Hornby Company in 2004. In 2012 , Hornby  announced the return of these very sought after models.
The new models are Lamborghini cars and a  Ducati Superbike 1299 Panigales. Unfortunately, all of the current models are sold out on their website.
However, new models are being manufactured as I write this post!

Below are models of the earlier Pocher model kits that were assembled
by a famous model-maker by the name of Mr. Brady Ward.

Part II

As I mentioned in Part 1, Hornby currently owns the Pocher Company. For those who don't know, Hornby is a world-renowned model railway brand company that was founded  in 1901 by Frank Hornby, who received a patent for the now-famous Meccano toy construction kits.   Fast forward to the 1960's and the Pocher company was resurrected, and started to produce Pocher models. Eventually, the Pocher Company had financial troubles, and once again, the Pocher company changed hands to become a subsidiary of the Hornby Company.

Many of their  current Lamborghini  models have been sold out. However, not to worry. They still have the beautiful 1:4 scale models of their  Ducati Superbike 1299 Panigale seen below. It's truly amazing how realistic this fine model shows, especially when you photograph the model professionally! If you've ever tried to do close-up photography, you'd be pulling your hair out with all of the dust that appears on your subjects. I really don't know how the Pocher photographers took such fine photos without the dust! What Pocher also offers are display cabinets to showcase these models once you have finished assembling them.
Soon, the Pocher Company will be coming out with new models for model enthusiasts.

I was fortunate enough to contact the Pocher company, and corresponded with both
Mr. Philip Deery and Mr.  Mark Lodge.

Philip Deery wrote back to say:
“All the Aventador variants and the Huracan models have been extremely successful for us. The latest model, the Verde Mantis Huracan, will be released in the next few weeks and pre-orders show that it is just as popular as the previous models. This is a testament to the strength of the Pocher brand.

We are currently evaluating opportunities for the future and we will release further details in due course.”

I'm glad that the Pocher Company is continuing with their famous 1:8 and 1:4 scale models. There are many people around the world who are dedicated fans of this company, and continue to purchase their products.

Thanks for dropping by,
and have a great day or evening.

Retro 1-2-3

Retro 1-2-3

I accidentally found the Retro 1 2 3 company while I was looking for something else. I haven't been able to find much information on the company, but it was a modern-era company producing 1:8 scale models of different old trucks, cars, and busses. These models are not toys, but are for people who collect scale models. The Retro 1 2 3 company made limited edition models for the public, usually in 100 or 125 units. The models were solid metal, with hinged doors that would open, and actual steering of the front wheels. The models were made in China.

If you have information, or find more information about the company, please send me the information, so that I can add it to this blog post.
