An Amazing Discovery of
Paya Reproductions

ebay seems to be my "haunt" (regular place to hang out) these days. First I use PicClick, a newly-discovered compliment website to ebay, and then I venture over to ebay. As I was looking on PicClick, I came across a nice Paya toy. For some reason, it's very rare to actually see these Spanish toys on  ebay, or anywhere for that matter.  Of course, if you do go to ebay Spain, you'll find lots of them there.

So when I actually found a nice group of Paya reproductions, I immediately wrote the ebay store called "The Wicked Yak". Interestingly this toy store is in Australia! This fine ebay company happens to be located in Auctgralia, and specializes in

The Paya Company was founded in 1902 by Rafael Paya, the local smith.
Four years later Rafael's sons Pascual, Emilio and Vincente built the first toy factory in Spain and by the 1920s Paya's toys were considered the equal of then great and famous toy makers to the north. Not only was Paya quality the equal of Marklin, but Paya's colours and imprints were graphically more interesting, precise and bolder. The 1930's, with Raimundo Paya at the helm, was the time of great expansion. This was when the famous Bugatti race car was made.  In 1946, Paya once again started making toys. In 1985, Lino made the decision to remake all of the classic old litho tinplate  toys on a very limited basis. The production of each was limited to 5000 (or less) world-wide.
Of the 2000 toys manufactured by Paya between 1906 to 1040, a total of 50 historic models have been discovered. These are now made in a series with an issue limit of 5000 numerated pieces, accompanied by their certificates of authenticity.*

* Description courtesy of The Wicked Yak.

Each of the modern-era Paya reproduction  toys has an authentication certificate.
On  the certificate os the original toy number, the actual production number of the toy, and the total numbers that the particular toy was manufactured. Usually, the modern-era toys were limited to a run of 5000 toys. Also, each toy happens to have the actual toy number punched into the toy somewhere, as can be seen from some of the photos.

It's hard to ever see the original Paya toys from the 1920's. That's not to say they're not there, but as far as North America goes, they're rare. You might find some on ebay Spain, but you'd have to look very hard, and often.

Thanks for dropping by,
and as always,
Have a great part of the day or night,
Wherever you may be.
