Antique Carlisle & Finch Model Railway
Cars Come to Auction

Bertoia Auctions is having a large-sized auction in May with many different classes of toys. I've recently featured some of their other items coming in May to that auction, but waited until I had more time to present the Carlisle & Finch model railway cars.  If you want an excellent resource to find out about most model trains, then please go to the

Train Collectors Association - Western Division:

Carlisle & Finch- the company, was founded in 1894 by two electrical engineers by the names of Morton carlisle and Robert Finch. They had purchased a repair shop from General Electric (Thomas Alva Edison) and renamed it with their family names. The repair shop repaired real train electric motors and rewound the copper on the armatures. The toys were produced to broaden the company and earn them more money. They were the first to produce electrical-powered miniature trains in volume, and thus usually are credited with this invention.  Towards the end of WWI, the US government mandated them to create and produce naval searchlights for the navy.Eventually the model grains ceased to be produced, and the naval searchlights became the main production of the company. To thus day, the company is going strong and priced these very high-quality searchlights.

The triptych above (3 photos together presented as one) illustrates the fine quality of these true antique toys (100 years old). Brass and nickel are used for parts of the train.

The train engine and tender are great example illustrating the use of high-quality nickel metal, and brass alloys for the car.

A beautifully-desinged railway passenger car.

I especially like the integration of the wood ties with the rails.
I've never seen this before done to model train tracks, and the combination is quite
interesting and realistic. I wonder if any other manufacturers at the time did this?

As you can see, there was a slight problem with Google's Blogger.
I'm not sure what happened, but I'll get back in the future to see if I can fix the problem.

Thanks for dropping by to visit,
and as always have a great part of the day or night
wherever you may be.
