A Beautiful Keystone Bus

   I posted about Mr. Red McHoe yesterday from VMCH on ebay and  Red's Toy Parts on his own net website. He had some very nice case iron toys for sale. He also had today's item - a beautiful toy bus that children could tide on. I was going to add this item to the cast irons, but it's  pressed steel, and I decided to post it separately. 

   The most interesting fact about the Keystone company was that it was also in the photography business.  I still remember the name from the New York Times, when they'd advertise in the Sunday newspaper. But they also manufacturers toys!

This Keystone bus is described by Red as the "Holy Grail" of Keystone toys. It's a very large riding toy, with a top that opens up to show a nice bus seat  and crossbars for support of a child while riding the toy. The toy was modelled after a Packard bus of the times, and measures a substantial 31" in length ( 787 mm). Because of its' rarity and large size, these toys are priced high in terms of old toys for sale.

What's interesting to note is that the wooden horizontal steering handle connects inside the top to a smaller sttering wheel that allows the toy to partly turn. You can see the limits of the turning radius in the underside photo below. 

What's always interesting for me is the fact that toys like this have lasted so long and still are in one piece with all of their original components  It's "harder" to find anything today that lasts for long!

from a Wyoming Seller

   I like to return to people and companies that I've written about to see how they're doing, and to see what new items they have. I wrote to Mr. Red McHoe,  a few days ago,and all was fine, but  Red hadn't much to say about his merchandise. His items though were great, and so I decided to present them.  Red also has a store that sells old toy replacement parts. I'll add both links below Red's logo.

Red takes nice photos of his items for sale,and that helps me out lots.  When I can work with a well-focussed photo, with good exposure, and proper colour-balance, I am helped out quite a bit. 

You don't see the car and truck carrier too often being offered, and this one is in quite good condition.

This is a nice speedboat . It's called a "pull toy" because a string would be attached to the eyelet at the front of the boat,and then pulled along the sidewalk or road.

Below are a nice trio of very old cast iron toys. They're also in quite good shape for their age.

I always like the take apart toys regardless of the manufacturer. At the time, all of the manufacturers had these take apart toys, with different companies having slightly different ways of dismantling them. In the above Hubley convertible, that steel spring would be moved from the yellow hook, and the top of the car would be able to be removed. MAny of the toy manufacturers would allow for the interchangeability of different toy parts. You could add a truck top or a car top to the lower chassis part.

This old baby carriage is great. All of the pieces are intact, and of course, the hood or bonnet of the toy can move to either end of the carriage, just like toe real one of the time.

Red's Toy Parts

   3 Days ago, I wrote about VMCH- a nice E-Bay store and owner who  lives in Wyoming. He also wrote me back to say that he also sells antique toy parts both on E-Bay, and through his Net store called Red's Toy Parts. So naturally, I saw my future post. I had always wanted to write a post with both replacement toy parts and photos of toys that would match up with the parts. Since I always prefer to keep each post unique to one seller, both Red's current and sold toys, as well as his toy parts offered me one of those "eureka Moments". I could now write the post that I always wanted. I then remembered that I also had taken loads of photos for my buying and selling on E-Bay, so I could add some of those. I'll add my photos at some future date, as I have a doctor's appointment today, and am running out of time.

   THe Logo below is not quite Red's actual Logo, but I had used this one as a watermark. I hope that he won't mind.

The photo montage above are just some of the old and antique cast iron toys that Red McHoes has sold. Many of them actually have new hubs and tires that I'm sure Red mentioned on his listings. 

He mentions on all his merchandise descriptions that the tires are all 100% rubber, rather than silicone that some other stores sell.  The rubber are truer to the original nature of the old cast iron toys, and are better in quality.

I've enhanced the photos below to make the parts easier to see. However, I haven;t had the time to match up the toy with the actual parts. However, I'm sure anyone having an cast iron toy needing parts can most-easily visit Red's Toy Parts store and figure out which parts belong to their cast iron toy.

As you can see, Red McHoe certainly has a broad range of toy parts to match most people cast iron toys that are missing parts. If you ever purchase an old toy, and decide to buy replacement parts, keep the old parts. Collectors like to have original parts, even if the parts are in poor condition.
