Introducing Nadeau's Auction Gallery

    I had written another post about a reader asking me about a certain cart and

       horse.That post was written a while ago. The reader had asked about a certain cart and horse, and I searched the 'Net to try and find out all about his toy. I wrote the post, but never found the answer. However, I found an auctioneer who had a nice group of horse and carts, and I decided to ask for permission to write a blog post for his auction company.

And that's how today's post came to be.  This auction happened on 

October 15-16, 2018 on BidSquare, a fine auction company on the Internet.

 What's amazing about the Internet and auction companies, is the ability 

to go back in time. Most of the auction companies save their auctions,

which allows you to expand any search that you are doing.

Description:

"Early Carpenter cast iron cart circa 1885, patented May 25, 1880, 82, 83 and 84.

The cart is fitted with a tipping mechanism, and the bed is embossed with

trademark, having a flat iron driver drawing by the galloping motion

of the wheel horse.

Old Toy Advertisements and other 

Ephemera

My early morning starts with searching for my next blog post. I was checking out 

ebay, when I came across a most interesting seller. The name of the store is 

Mantiques and Baseball. This store sells ephemera, which is a rarely-used word for  rare collectibles, and mostly associated with paper. It could be posters, magazines, newspapers, and other forms of paper that can have photographs, artwork, and other kinds of images such as lithographs.

As you can see from the Mantiques and baseball screen-capture below, the

company has an excellent reputation, lots of followers, and has sold lots

of this type of collectible.

I wrote to the store owner for permission, and was elated to receive permission.

I wrote to the owner of Mantiques & baseball and I got his permission to wrote about his fine store and of course the fabulous collection of ephemera. I decided to limit today's post exclusively to old catalogue pages of toys.  Most of todays images were created for toy companies by illustrators or artists.  I admire people who can draw or sketch,  and old illustrations from old newspapers, magazines, or books are wonderful to look at.

For those who don't know,Tootsietoys are small-sized die cast toys. The company was an American company, and produced lots of wonderful toys.

These toys were made from cast iron and had rubber tires.

If you've ever held a cast iron toy, you'll have a nice feeling.

They're heavy and solid.

It's amazing that these paper  pages are in such fine condition.

Some people find them and like to frame them and put them on their wall.

I've only presented a small sampling of what this fine store and GDAWG has to offer for anybody that collects old magazines, catalogues or advertisements.

His website is most interesting and fascinating. So if you like to look at old

magazines and toy catalogues, this is definitely the site to visit.

GDAWG's store is not limited to just toy catalogues. 

exceptional photographs  from famous photographers such as Helmut Newton 

and Yousef Karsh. The Karsh photos are of the gravure type. If you like 

to look at fine photographic portraits, this also is an excellent place to look

at, and perhaps even purchase one of the fine images.

A Wonderful Discovery to Accompany

an Old Blog Post

One of my favourite movies is Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks in the lead roll (1994). He won an Academy Award for best actor in 1995. Better still was

the line that he said in the movie, while in a seat waiting for a bus, and talking to a young woman .

"My momma always said, 

"Life was like a bowl of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get"

And so it was for me, just a short while ago. I was searching on ebay for toys and I came across an ebay store with an old advertisement of a toy that

I once write about. I had to search though my 1700 posts, but I finally found the post. 

The owner of the store goes by the name gdawg. His store is amazing, and 

there is an amazing collection of old ephemera (old items, but more emphasized on paper, such as newspapers old magazines, and so forth).

I'm going to have to write gdawg, because I can't find the exact page shown, among the hundreds of exceptional old advertisements.

The toy that I was interested in matching to the old post is the white police car manufactured by the Leslie Henry Company back in the 1950's.

I can't find the page that I posted, but when I do find it, I'll add the specific link to the Leslie-Henry Co.toy.

by the name of Bargaingarden, that the owner, Susan Behr owned back in 2012, but I couldn't find it. At that time, I didn't add website addresses for people to click on. Another person shared this blog post. His name is Mr. Al Williams, and he had written me to find out about his toy police car.

Donley Auctions Exceptional 2-Day Toy Auction

When I searched for the Donaly auction, some reviews were posted on the 'Net.

Donaly Auctions had a very good reputation from the reviews, and I admire their candid honesty in showing and describing the items going to auction.

To quote this fine auction company:

"Our auction house is entrusted by consignors and collectible experts worldwide."

"Our experienced staff has over 100 years of combined knowledge and experience."

"Over 5 decades of collection, buying, and selling vintage Americana, rare antiques, and items of historical significance".

I decided to select one item for this post because it was the first toy that attracted my attention on the Donley Auctions's website.

It's Lot # 1272

Here is the description of this nice toy

"Hard to find and highly desirable

Yonezawa Atom 27 Japanese tin litho racer.

Approximately 16" (40.64 cm) and in good overall condition featuring a futuristic eye catching color combination and design/Appears to be original with driver w helmet, chrome accents and no rubber on the tires. Some cosmetic imperfections noted are associated with age and wear, include minor scratches, oxidation and discoloration. Front wheels roll with a slight wobble, friction is not engaged and does not work along with light oxidation on chrome accents and bottom edge."

What I admire about the Donley Auctions descriptions is their honest descriptions.

Scratches, rust, or discoloration are all noted, and there always is an exceptional amount of photos that accompany each and every listed item.

   

  

When I searched for the Donaly auction, some reviews were posted on the 'Net.

Donaly Auctions had a very good reputation from the reviews, and I admire their candid honesty in showing and describing the items going to auction.

Please be sure to visit their second post that I posted after this one. Also, please have a visit to their website and this fine auction. I've never seen 1000 toys listed on one auction at one time. This is exceptional, and there are  a wonderful group of toys to be seen.

Donley Auctions Second Post

I'm writing this Second Donley Auction today, because this auction is coming soon on April 12th & 13th of 2025. Altogether, there will be about 1000 toys that will be auctioned.  Most of the toys will be auctioned on the first today. On the second there is another large collection of many different interesting items. That auction is also interesting, and you might find something very interesting there to bid on.

The content of my post today is but a sample of the exceptional auction that will be happening April 12th 2025. You have to visit their site to see so many wonderful old and even some antique** toys.

Most of the toys will be auctioned on the first day. However, there are a lot of other

interesting items that you can see on the second day link that I added below.

I selected the beautiful Manitowoc Crane because it was a unique collectible among all of the others. It's a most unique item, and I wanted to present it today. I labelled this exceptional  model a "collectible", as I don't think many of you would let your child or teenager "play" with it!

and  beautiful and very old horse-drawn toys.

"Scarce Watros iron clown & horse bell in overall good condition;9" (22.86 cm)metal double bell horse race toy, missing reigns,  wheels move freely along with move 14" (35.56 cm) American made cast iron horse bell toy.

This is the same image as above. I chose it because of the way that Donley Auctions shows the relative size of the toys. They do this for many of their toy  listings, 

and it's great!

Considering the approximate date (1880's), this item is a definite antique. Many people consider 100 years as a time-span to label something an antique.

leather reins & be.. In good condition overall with some age and wear,

I've presented but a "taste" of what this auction has to offer. A thousand (1000) is a a big amount of toys, and the listings are excellently photographed and described.

Day 2 of This Most-Special Auction

Description:

"1938 Majestic Radio Co Charlie McCarthy, Bakelite radio with original monocle, adjusting knob, off-white color with a few nicks and scratches. Has a few cracks (see photos), but not very noticeable. Missing cardboard back door, and has light plug,core and antenna wire Shows well. A collectible radio in good condition.Lights up and hums when plugged in."

Description:

"No shipping on this item.Customer or 3rd party pickup only.

Circa 1950's 28" boys bicycle made by Ranger of Chicago, Illinois. All original 

including paint and seat. Has light on front fender, tank, chain guard, and 

package rack. In fair to good condition from original owner."

I've been blogging since 2011, and the more that I see on the 'Net, the more  I am reminded of the good times gone by. The above 2 items remind me when I was a "kid" I would watch black and white TV on the Ed Sullivan Show. 

The puppet, Charlie McCarthy was handedly mastered by Edgar Bergen. I remember both from the 1950's and later when both were on black and white TV on the Ed Sullivan Show. As for the bicycle, I had a simple blue and "less fancy" 

2-wheeler. It also had only one gear- peddle!  Nevertheless, it got me from one place to the other. Also, I was one of the few kids on the street with a bicycle.

Those days have long gone by, but the  wonderful memories of my friends in school, and on the street are still with me. Times may change, but memories stay with you forever.
