Cloudy with showers, changing to sunny periods

"Par Excellence"

I was visiting ebay yesterday, when I caught a glimpse of a fabulous listing that had sold in August of this year. Naturally, being the inquisitive person that I am, I had to "check it out"! The listing presentation, the photography, and last but not least the item was beyond excellent - it was as is said in French "Par Excellence"!

Description

Hubley Toy Line Cast Iron 4 piece Vehicle Set in Original Box, these all measure 6.5" and 7" in length, includes a yellow Diamond T Fuel Tanker #2237, green Lincoln Zephyr #2242, blue Steamliner Race Car #2241, and a red Diamond TS Stake truck #2238.  Recently acquired from the original owner, this set remains in its original box, there are No re-paints or touch-ups in the bunch. Condition is as illustrated, in played-with condition but no damage, the box has wear, stains and a couple torn corners. There is a  tuberculosis Christmas seal stamp on the lid that dates 1936.*

Description Courtesy of Family Ties Antiques

(Metric sizes are  166 mm & 178 mm in length)

If you're looking for the 1936 Christmas Seal, it is in the triangle formed by the green motorcycle, the blue convertible, and  red firetruck. These are in the upper right corner.

I like that personal touch of parents having placed a Christmas Seal on the box. I've personally purchased and resold the Green Zephyr and the red fire truck. I've mentioned before about the tactile (hands on feeling) of having a heavy toy in your hands. It's similar to having a heavy glass paperweight, a heavy rock or a piece of smooth wood.

It's hard to explain!

THe four toys together are in unbelievable condition,as is the box.
Imagine 78 years "young".

I didn't want to add a lot of type (writing) to this post - because after all, I did write that
the owner of  Family Ties Antiques had indeed presented  a "Par Excellence" listing on ebay!

Sometimes, a writer simply has to place the pen down,
or in the 21st century, stop using his/her fingers on the keyboard!

Enjoy!

Thanks for dropping by,and as always
have a great part of the day or night,
wherever you may be,

  1. Hi Bob,

    I know what you mean.
One of my favourite pastimes when i n a library or second-hand bookstore is to search out old magazines, and books with photos.

Way back then things were certainly different from today!
