A Beautiful Remanufactured Schwinn Bicycle
I recently was given permission to write about a fine bicycle seller and repair store both on ebay and in Madison, Wisconsin, (USA). Their name on ebay is the same as their Madison name - Budget Bicycle Center, but their name to write to is BBCBikes. My introductory post for Budget Bicycle Center was on August 28, 2013 and I only posted 6 bicycles. I learned that it was harder to whiten out the area between the spokes - even with that "well-known" software! As you know, if you read my blog, I like to present items against white. However, as general MacArthur once said about The Philippines - I shall return. And so I returned to present an outstanding bicycle that was reproduced by the Schwinn Bicycle Company in 1995.
Schwinn like many other kinds of companies a long time ago was once a company started by a person who then passed on the company reins to members of his family. However, as we've seen in the last 50 years, companies can't survive very easily in today's global economy. Schwinn went through difficult times after WWII, and after some troubling periods eventually went bankrupt . Later they were purchased by one company, and eventually are now owned by Dorel Industries (Montreal,Quebec,Canada, who also own many other bicycle companies (among other things), and assembles the bicycles in Brazil. I don't know where the parts are made.
The 1995 Schwinn is a beautiful reproduction of the much earlier model. I think it commemorated 50 years since the original design was introduced to the USA market. Only 500 of these beautiful bicycles were made, and the one presented today was never rode. It's up for sale as of this date.
I thought I 'd present it for today - being Labour Day. As we have seen both in canada, and the USA, many companies no longer have factories in North America. China has become the place to be for manufacture. As well, other Asian countries follow as well. I don't think anyone can be blamed for the decline of the skilled North American production company, but money and profit is a leading factor. Today, this is what the global economy economy is all about!
I wonder what employees of today in North America think about working for companies here? I also wonder what kind of loyalty to their company and work ethic abounds, knowing that at any time the company could be bought up or have production transferred to elsewhere. However, at one time, most employees were happy both to have a job, and to know that they would be able to work there until retirement. Nowadays, the mentality of both employee and employer has changed.
So today's post is to dedicated to al the skilled workers from the past and today, who still work to produce many of the products that we use every day.

It's certainly not the lightest wight bicycle, nor has 24 gears, but in the later 1940's and 1950's that's what children rode, and they were happy with it. That's what old toys and collecting is all about for many people - remembering a time that everyone once upon a time went through - childhood.
