The World of Small Toys

Up-Close

   Our eyes can't see up close, so a lot of the beautiful detail of small toys is not really seen that well. I was looking at some writing on the front of one of the toys from yesterday's blog. I couldn't read it even with my close-up reading glasses! So, I decided to photograph it with my Canon 100mm macro lens. This lens is a fixed length lens. THat means that it's a 100mm lens and has no zoom capabilities. You simply move an item closer or farther away and then re-focus with the lens.

    If you don't want to buy such a lens the alternatives are to buy a bellows extension or close-up filters that will allow you to "get close" with whatever lens you decide you want to work with. Since this is my toy blog, I'll be going into more detail on my Pro Photo Learning Blog.

   The world of macro (small items enlarged) is very interesting in terms of being able to see the small details up close. However, you end up also seeing every dust particle, spider web, nick and scratch, and paint flaking I'm sure some of you will say "why am I buying such junk?" I could have retouched everything out, but part of the macro world is the "nuances" of what the lens records in the real macro world.

This toy is actually a "Giant' measuring 9" long.

However, I photographed it for the great  rivet pattern all over the toy.
