Lehmann Asian Toys - Circa 1900

Wednesday, October 2, 2013
        Another wonderful autumn day

Lehmann Asian Toys
Circa 1900

There was plenty of activity in the mid-19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Europe had taken a large control of the county, and the Boxer (a rebellious group) tried to overthrow the ruling monarchy. The rebellion failed, but gave the Chinese people pride in themselves and their country. Previous to the European,s the Japanese had conquered China, and relegated the Chinese to third-class citizens. With all of this news being received in Europe, Lehmann (Germany) toy designers must have had the idea of  creating Asian toys. The toys presented today are from that time period. What I've also done is present some interesting variations of the toys that I had noticed as I was making my selections. For a toy made so far back, the great engineering of German engineers and designers is magnificently presented in these toys. These toys fare well at auction and usually are purchased at several thousand dollars on average. The first item - the Boxer Rebellion blanket toss, went for over $ 10,000.00 U.S.

Have a look, and see if you can identify the subtle differences of toys that I have twice or even three times. added. As I don't have these old catalogues, I cannot inform you as to when or why these changes took place.

Thanks for visiting,

and as always,
have a great part of the day or night,
wherever you may be.
